Meet Fernando and hear his story!

Last year, Fernando was a student in our Level 4 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class. He entered our Student Leader program and immediately showed excellent initiative and capacity. When we needed to hire an evening coordinator, we approached Fernando to see if he would be interested. He happily took the position, and provided great support and stability for our evening ESOL students. Since then, he has expanded his impact in the organization, becoming an indispensable support to students across our ESOL, digital literacy, Adult Basic Education, and GED programs. Recently, as ABE and GED Program Manager, Fernando opened three new GED en Espanol classes, and plans to open another three GED in English classes.
Fernando is just one of many students who have graduated from LCN with the skills to make contributions at LCN or in a variety of other career fields. Some of our other students have gone on to own their own businesses, work at hotels, bakeries, restaurants, healthcare facilities, and graduate from Montgomery County Community College.
At LCN, we know that our students have the power and skills to help themselves and each other - as long as they have the opportunity. Since August, LCN has already served 429 students, and we are on track to quickly surpass our record 552 students served last year. LCN continues to expand our programming and our reach across Norristown and the whole of Montgomery County. Because of generous supporters like you, we have been able to open three family literacy sites this year, serving families through adult education, elementary homework help, preschool development activities, and interactive parent and child together time. We are developing partnerships with local businesses to support their staff with English language learning, digital navigation, and financial literacy.
